Home Energy Tune-uP® Training Class Overview
The goal of the Home Energy Tune-uP® program is to help households upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes and appliances by identifying and analyzing all cost-effective opportunities.
In order to achieve this highly beneficial service, CMC Energy will train home inspectors to perform the on-site energy inspection which closely parallels the general home inspection.
Learning Objectives
The home inspector will be trained on basic energy principles as they apply to residential heating and cooling performance. These two components are chiefly responsible for 40% to 60% of the typical household’s energy costs.
In addition to a basic understanding of fundamental energy knowledge, an appropriate amount of time is spent instructing the inspector as to how the data is collected in the client’s home and entered into the web-based software program.
The 8 hour course’s complete outline covers the following:
- Fundamentals of Energy
- Heating and Cooling System(s)
- Distribution and Controls
- Domestic Water Heater
- Air Seal-up
- Ceiling, Wall, and Floor Insulation
- Windows and Shades
- Kitchen Appliances
- Laundry Appliances
- Data Collection & Software Use
All training materials are included. An open book exam is administered at the conclusion of the class.
Hands-On Objectives
Finally, each inspector is encouraged to submit 2 trial energy audits. It is suggested that they audit their home and/or a friend’s or neighbor’s home, to ensure that all aspects of the program - inspection, data collection and audit input, are deployed in practice mode prior to the inspector offering the service for fee.
