Home Tune-uP™ Advanced Course for BPI Building Analyst I
This course provides ‘house-as-a-system’ training as a Building Analyst Professional. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of energy; heating and cooling systems; distribution and controls; domestic water heater; air seal-up; insulation; windows; home appliances; combustion safety; carbon monoxide protection; data collection and software use. A training book, tools, and materials are provided. Students are eligible to take the BPI Building Analyst I exam after successful completion of the training course and two practice field inspections.
Day 1 and Day 2: Classroom training – 16 hour class with continuing education credits available. The topics covered include:
- Fundamentals of Energy
- Heating and Cooling System(s)
- Distribution and Controls
- Domestic Water Heater
- Air Seal-up
- Ceiling, Wall, and Floor Insulation
- Windows and Shades
- Kitchen Appliances
- Laundry Appliances
- Combustion Safety
- Health and Safety including CO, asbestos, mold and other potential hazards typically found in homes
- Home Energy Tune-Up instruction on how to download, navigate and prepare energy reports.
- Exam
( 6 CEUs with ASHI / 8 CEUs with NAHI / 8 CEUs with TAREI / 8 CECs with CREIA / 6 hours with FABI / 8 credits with NACHI).
Day 3 & 4: Field Training – The full diagnostic energy audit is performed in the field with the instructor, allowing for hands-on learning. All BPI required health and safety procedures are demonstrated. Each student collects data as part of the training process. Field training includes:

Data collection – orientation of dwelling, measuring conditioned space; evaluating heating and cooling systems, water heating, insulation, windows and appliances.

Diagnostic Testing: A blower door is set up and the test home de-pressurized. Students learn how to use the fan and a manometer to conduct zonal pressure differences and perform duct leakage tests utilizing a pressure pan.

Health and Safety: Students learn how to determine minimum building airflow standards; combustion safety and carbon monoxide procedures including spillage and draft tests, and worst case CAZ depressurization. All of these procedures prepare students for the field portion of the BPI Building Analyst Professional exam.

Students should bring a calculator, flashlight and if the class is being held in Fort Washington, a laptop (if they would like CMC’s trained staff to install the software.)

A prerequisite to this course is a technical background in residential construction or being a qualified home inspector.

Steps Required to Become a Certified Home Tune-uP™ Inspector
1. Complete the Home Tune-uP Course as described above.
2. Complete Your Practice Audits
Upon completing your training course, CMC requires that you complete 2 FREE practice audits. These practice audits can be performed on your own home, or perhaps the home of a friend or relative. Once entered into the Tune-uP software, a member of our staff will review the audits and notify you of your successful completion of our training program.
3. Set up an Online Home Tune-uP Account with CMC.
Follow the steps outlined in ‘Home Tune-uP Account Set Up’, below.
4. Use The Home Tune-uP Software to Perform Energy Audits
Upon successful completion of your 2 practice energy audits, you are ready to offer this beneficial service to your clients. Conduct the analysis of the home, enter the collected data into our web-based software, and generate a customized audit report to present to your client. The report is the key tool that will persuade homeowners to save money by investing in energy efficiency. The fee for use of our software is $20 per audit. The energy report is generated as soon as the data is entered, so there is no waiting for results.
As a certified Home Tune-uP inspector, CMC Energy will list you and your company on our popular Customer website.

Sample Home Tune-uP™ Report
The Home Tune-uP Report includes the auditor’s business logo and company information, multiple pictures for each recommended improvement, detailed descriptions and unlimited auditor comments.
The Report contains estimates of the savings, costs and payback for all energy-efficiency recommendations. It also identifies the pay-from-your-savings group of improvements that will save more on energy bills than they cost, when financed. These are the improvements that everyone can afford since they require no out-of-pocket down payment.

Setup your Home Tune-uP Account with CMC Energy Services
Watch the setup video, read the written setup instructions to complete the 5-step Account Setup Process, or download and print the PDF setup form and fax it back to us at 215-540-0352.

Follow the Written Instructions or download, print and complete the PDF Account Setup Form and fax it back to CMC at 215-540-0352.
(If you encounter problems with either video format, try the other format.)
If you receive an error while filling out the software agreements, PLEASE ignore the error and continue with the rest of the setup process. Computer settings on some computers cause this error but CMC DOES receive your data. We are working to resolve this known bug with our software vendor.
Once all 5 steps have been completed, you will receive an email within 1-2 business days to grant access to the Home Tune-uP software.

How To Update Billing & Shipping Addresses
You can update your BILLING and SHIPPING address information by clicking on the MY ACCOUNT tab.
Addresses can fall into a few categories:
• Shipping – information for UPS to use to ship you products you order from CMC
• Billing – information that MATCHES the statement address of your credit card
Click on the "Edit Your Profile" link and either add or update your billing and shipping addresses.
NOTE: If your Billing and Shipping addresses are THE SAME, be sure to check the box marked "This address is also my shipping address".

Home Tune-uP™ Class Cancellation & Refund Policy
Cancellation By Registered Attendee
If you need to cancel your registration for a class, you must do so 7 days prior to the class date. Please contact us by email or by phone 1-866-336-5262 x 105.
Failure to notify us of your cancellation 7 days prior to the class date will result in a fee of $25. This $25 may be used toward a future training class. The balance of your class registration fee will be refunded within 2 days after the date of the class.
Cancellation By CMC Energy Services
If CMC cancels a class at any time or for any reason, you will be notified immediately and a full refund of your registration fee will be given no later than 2 days after notification.
